PRIORITY ONE: Secure full funding for Reich College of Education facility
Q: Why does Appalachian need a new facility for the RCOE?
Edwin Duncan hall is currently operating at double its capacity for students and faculty. Appalachian has one of the top education programs in the nation and has made a committment to the UNC system to provide nearly 20% of the system's education graduates by the year 2010.
That committment, paired with the current building's condition creates the drastic need for a new facility.
Appalachian needs this facility to answer one of North Carolina's greatest problems, the teacher shortage.
Q. Where do we currently stand in the process to fund the RCOE facility?
Appalachian received $1.8 million in planning money during the last session of the NC General Assembly. This money will be used to secure a site and create a plan to submit to the UNC system and General Assembly.
If the UNC System accepts the plan it will recommend funding the project.
Once the site and design are approved, you can help Appalachian and the UNC System by joining their push for full funding of the project.
